In September each year a newly qualified dentist arrives to work In Surgery 2. Their official title is Vocational Dental Practitioner ( VDP).
The young dentists are supported throughout the year by their Vocational trainer (VT), Ian Duthie, who advises on their treatment plans as well as giving them weekly tutorials. Every Friday the VDP attends Croydon University Hospital along with 11 other VDP's, who work in other local practices, for lectures
The VDP has a contract to carry out all aspects of dental treatment on the NHS, with the exception of tooth coloured fillings on molar teeth and bleaching. Treatment,such as Orthodontics, Implants and General Anaesthetic , that cannot be carried out at the practice will be referred to the approprite specialist.
The NHS fees are divided into 3 bands of treatment:- Band 1 (£18.00) Exam Scale and diagnostis xrays
Band 2 (49.00 ) All dental treament excluding laboratory work
Band 3 (£214.00) All treatment including crowns, bridges and dentures
With the exception of Band 1, all NHS Fees must be paid before treatment commences
Ian Duthie only has an NHS Contract which permits him to see and treat those patients exempt from paying NHS Fees (ie under 18's;
18 year olds in full time education; pregnant and nursing mums with a baby under 1 year of age ; those with an exemption certificate)
If you are exempt for what ever reason, please bring evidence of your exemption with you when seeing either of our dentists.
